Illustration with simulated data: Minimum trading days, and what counts as a day
Illustration with simulated data. Not real market prices.

Many evaluations and payout cycles need a minimum number of trading days, as well as a profit target. Reach the target on day 3 of a 5-day minimum and you still have two more days to trade.

What counts as a day varies. Some firms count any day with at least one trade. Others need a minimum profit on that day, or a minimum number of contracts traded.

The trading day is usually the futures session, which in many cases rolls over at 5pm Chicago time, not at midnight where you live. A trade at 11pm London time can belong to the next day.

The risk is in the extra days. With the target already met, a large loss on day 4 can still break a drawdown rule. Many traders cut size right down for the remaining days.

Read the exact definition of a day and whether it applies to the evaluation, payouts, or both.

You can practise the rule types in Ombra's free futures practice, which tracks trading days on the Chicago session clock.

Education only. Not advice. Trading futures carries risk of loss; evaluations use simulated accounts.
